Do you...
…find yourself overthinking relationships, friendships or work, which erodes your enjoyment of life?
Do you...
…struggle to say no, fear making mistakes or push yourself so hard that you’re burnt out with no time for yourself?
Do you...
…feel fine until you scroll social media and no longer feel good enough, which affects your mood?
Low self esteem can make us worry what people think, fear rejection, criticise or compare ourselves to others. It causes anxiety, stress or depression and problems in work or relationships.
What Causes Low Self Esteem?
Low self esteem can be caused by a variety of factors and sometimes there is no obvious answer. A person may remember always lacking in confidence from being a small child but had a happy home life. If thats the case then therapy for low self esteem will still be effective and you can read about how we might work together on it below.
However, often there are environmental causes usually due to experiences in childhood or major life events later on. For example:
- Critical or emotionally distant parenting
- Abusive parenting
- Bullying at school or competitive environments
- Moving schools
- Stressful relationship such as infidelity or domestic violence
- Traumatic experiences such as grief or abuse.
How Can Therapy For Low Self Esteem Help?
Accessing therapy for low self esteem can help you become be kinder to yourself, less self critical and more comfortable in your own skin.
The sessions themselves can be a place you can share your story and process difficult events. It will help you increase awareness of how experiences in childhood have affected you as well as understand what can change in the present.
I will listen in a supportive and non judgemental way but also reflect what I hear so that you are gently challenged and your awareness is increased.
My therapy for self esteem sessions also involves practical proven techniques such as:
- CBT: Helping you challenge the thoughts that contribute to low self esteem using CBT tools. Often when we feel bad about ourselves it is because we are interpreting events in a certain. We can learn to understand how we look at the world and generate more balanced and helpful thoughts.
- Mindfulness: When we have low self esteem we can be consumed with negative thinking as well as experiencing stressful feelings in the body. Mindfulness can help us take a step back from unhelpful thoughts as well as learn tools to regulate physical symptoms.
- Self Compassion: Develop compassionate ways of responding to yourself which is shown to improve low self esteem.
- Helping you overcome the ways that low self esteem is holding you back such as making friends or going for promotions.
How Long Will Therapy For Self Esteem Take?
Sessions are usually weekly and take 50 minutes. Sometimes people have fortnightly if thats all they feel they need or can afford. Sometimes people start weekly but reduce to fortnightly.
Its very hard to say how long therapy will take as it differs from person to person. Therapy is not a quick fix and it can take time to build a relationship, understand the problems and then make changes. As low self esteem is usually a result of stressful childhood experiences, the habits tend to be quite ingrained so can take time to unlearn. However, being able to commit at least 12 sessions is a good idea.
How much is therapy for low self esteem?
My sessions are £60 an hour. The cost also includes weekly emails with information and resources as well as my own guided meditations to help you work on yourself in between sessions.

About Me
I am an integrative therapist and mindful self compassion teacher. I am passionate about helping people with low self esteem feel good about themselves because I know how debilitating it can be not to. In the past I have been so worried about what other people thought that its held me back from living the life I want and created extra stress in my work and personal life.
I know how that nagging sense of not being good enough and living with a constant need for approval feels.
When I discovered techniques that helped me accept myself, be comfortable in my own skin and meet my own needs it inspired me to train as a therapist and so that I can share these techniques with others.
When working with me you will always be offered a safe space to share so that you can work through things yourself including difficult events from the past if thats helpful. But I will also teach you proven, practical tools to help you move forward and feel better about yourself for life.
I have worked in mental health for over 15 years, including well known mental health charities such as MIND and RETHINK. In addition to my private therapy practice I am also a qualified and experienced mindfulness teacher and Anxiety UK Approved Therapist.
I am a qualified BACP registered therapist. My approach is based on mindfulness and self compassion as these are evidence based tools that I have found effective for myself. I also use C.B.T and other techniques where needed.
For more information about my work experience and training see “about me” section.
